Snow Hill development glides into action

One of the UK’s largest city centre schemes under construction outside of London has recently undergone preparation works with the completion of the piling contact led by geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL). The project, at Snow Hill in Birmingham, is a 96,000sq metre mixed use development set in the heart of Birmingham’s business district, featuring two towers that contain residential apartments and a five star hotel.

Bachy Soletanche prepares Liverpool site for landmark museum

The proposed landmark building and surrounding grounds will be fully complete and open to the general public in 2010.

Bachy Soletanche digs deep at the Felindre to Tirley pipeline

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL) has recently completed work on a circular secant shaft near Ammanford, South Wales. The shaft will assist in the construction works of the Felindre to Tirley natural gas pipeline, transporting natural gas from Tirley to the two new terminals under construction at Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire.

Preparation is the key for Bachy Soletanche at Must Farm

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL) is currently constructing an 1825metre slurry cut-off wall at Must Farm in Cambridgeshire – preparing the site for future quarrying of Oxford Clay and any present sands and gravels. In a contract worth around £800,000, BSL will oversee all environmental works as the project’s main contractor.

Bachy Soletanche prepares ground works at Potato Wharf, Manchester

Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL), a leading geotechnical engineering firm is currently preparing ground works at one of Manchester’s landmark areas, Potato Wharf in Castlefield. BSL’s half a million pound contract will be spilt into two visits, with the first constructing a secant wall and high level bearing piles and the second to construct lower level bearing piles.

The final project will house 213 waterside apartments, in two eight storey blocks, overlooking the famous iron Cheshire Lines viaduct. The buildings due to be constructed for Crosby Lend Lease are set to be a mixture of old and new – complimenting the surrounding area with their deep grey façade, to blend with the nearby iron viaduct, and their brightly coloured features designed to foreground the passing canal boats.

Bachy Soletanche steps up the action at Shepherds Bush

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited, has completed a £1m+ piling contract at Shepherds Bush (Central Line) Underground station - constructing two shafts for step-free access from the underground platforms. The shafts were constructed for the redevelopment using the hard/firm secant wall piling method during a five month programme working for Morgan Est who is the Principal Contractor.

Bachy Soletanche protects the Englishman’s castle

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited has just completed a project for Urban Regen to carry out the construction of a slurry cut-off wall as part of preparation works for a new residential development based in Tonge Moor, Bolton. The purpose of the slurry trench works were to permanently isolate the proposed built development within the site - preventing the ingress of any potential contaminants from the adjoining landfill via both permeable fill and natural ground.

Going piling by the dock at London’s Crossharbour site

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited has recently completed its first stage of piling works at Crossharbour, the high-profile development based in London City centre – constructing a secant wall around the perimeter of the substantial 6..8 acre site. The former London arena site is based in the heart of the Canary Wharf and Docklands business district and is one of the largest ongoing construction sites in London City centre.

Holding back the Waterfront for a Carlow project in Ireland

Leading geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL) has completed piling work for a €15million Waterfront office development at the heart of Carlow – one of Ireland’s fastest growing towns. The project involved the construction of a bored pile secant wall; one of the first in the locality whilst programming work around a simultaneous re-routing of the sewer system took place. The sewer line was located directly underneath the site and although piling would not usually begin until the sewer had been re-routed, careful and innovative project programming meant that both projects could continue simultaneously.

Innovative piling works at Half Tide Dock, Liverpool

Liverpool’s Half Tide Dock is one of the final developments to be completed before Liverpool gains its European Capital of Culture status in 2008. Geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited provided an innovative piling solution that was specifically designed to preserve the heritage dock wall adjacent to the site.
