Hartwell House
Geotechnical specialist, Bachy Soletanche Limited (BSL) has completed one of its high-profile projects in the city of Bristol, having provided foundation work at the Hartwell House development. The site of the new office development is just five minutes walking distance from the massive Broadmead expansion project currently under way, and the two projects provide a great example of BSL’s unique versatility.
Bachy started work at Hartwell House on 25th July 2006 and completed the foundation work on 21st August, one day under the scheduled four-week programme.
The £138,000 contract was in stark contrast to the multi-million pound piling contract underway at Broadmead, and was designed to create foundations for a five-story office block that will contribute to the ongoing regeneration of Bristol’s city centre. Two hundred and sixty-eight piles were constructed, all of which were 400mm in diameter and up to 17m in depth. The piles were constructed using the continuous flight auger (CFA) process, with work running smoothly throughout the entire four-week programme.
Vijay Kumar Pookat, Contracts Engineer, at Bachy Soletanche Limited, commented:
“The Hartwell House contract, combined with the larger work we’re conducting at the Broadmead development, means we have been very involved in the regeneration of Bristol’s city centre, and it is great to see things progress and develop.”
“We worked closely with the main contractor Feltham Construction Limited, and through good planning and very few problems once work had begun, we were able to complete the project a day early.” He added.
