Direct Contracts
During the past 10 years we have become increasingly involved in Civil Engineering, in the role of (with others) main contractor. Recently, 50% of the company’s turnover was in this non-specialist sector of the business.
Our philosophy in seeking work from this market has been that where a significant geotechnical input is required into a project, we will undertake the design and construction of this portion and manage the remainder of the works out of the ground.
Clients can therefore ensure that the difficult interface between sub and super structure is managed by one contractor, minimising risk and consequential delay.
Value Engineering
We are able to provide clients value engineering to projects at an early stage in the design process by using innovative geotechnical construction techniques.
Contracts completed in recent years include an underground car park in Mayfair, the Jubilee Line Extension stations at Southwark, Bermondsey, Canary Wharf and North Greenwich (all in Joint Ventures with others), structures for the water industry such as pumping stations and underground water storage systems and general civil “enabling” works.
Partnerships
As part of Europe’s largest multi-disciplined geotechnical contractors, we are able to provide main contractors with a valuable partner that has competence in ground risk evaluation. This has enabled our company to be integral in the winning and completion of stimulating and challenging projects.
We are particularly proud to have partnered Morrison Construction on the Millennium Canal Link project in Scotland where the team have “reinvented the wheel”, an exciting design for a boatlift.
The company was also heavily committed, with five other European companies, in the design and construction of the Copenhagen Metro system in Denmark which presented many technical and environmental management challenges.
