Bachy Soletanche’s Plant Department has achieved the Gold standard, the highest level of recognition, in Soletanche Freyssinet’s global ‘Green is Great’ Environmental Awards.
Presented by Soletanche Bachy’s Environmental Director, Daniel Sanchez, and Bachy Soletanche UK’s ESG Manager, Dafydd Belshaw, the awards recognise environmental best practice across the group’s subsidiary companies worldwide. This achievement highlights the team’s innovation, operational improvements and environmental leadership.
The awards are assessed against four core pillars: Circular Economy, Act for the Climate, Preserve Natural Environments and Management, with prizes awarded up to Gold, reflecting the highest standard of environmental performance.
Key initiatives behind the award include:
- Telemetry installed across all drilling rigs, improving maintenance planning and fuel efficiency
- Expanded ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ programme, including waste and packaging reduction, digital‑first workflows, energy monitoring, water‑saving fixtures and rainwater reuse initiatives
- ‘Switch off’ and quiet running campaigns to cut idling and unnecessary fuel use
- Supplier compliance database, ensuring environmental, safety and operational standards are met before engagement
- Transportation management software to optimise routing, automate logistics and reduce emissions through transport partners
- Investment in plasma fume extraction technology, capturing up to 99% of airborne particles and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Ongoing support for local charities, including projects improving waterways and supporting community food banks
Commenting on the achievement, Bachy Soletanche Technical Supervisor Stephen O’Neill said:
“This Gold Award recognises the real progress we are making to embed sustainability into our plant operations. With a clear target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 40% by 2030, initiatives led by the Plant Department are delivering measurable environmental benefits today, through innovation, smarter processes and a commitment to continuous improvement.”
